Distribution US , Australia , Canada

just answering the latest comments -

US Distribution - Empire Film Group, a cinema release is planned for this October .
La Irish Film Festival Screening and 2d or not 2d Seattle screenings are the ones I know about so far - maybe theres more.
US DVD/Blu Ray release also planned.

Australia - Madman are distributing, a good distributor but I have no info about release dates.

Canada - Mongrel, again another good distributor signed up but no release dates known to me at present. The film will screen as part of Sparx animation festival in Vancouver next month and I'll be there!

In addition to this, I know the film has been playinga round the world at fetsivals, and continues to do so.

Today I am off to Denmark to the Animation Workshop....

Surreal feeling...

Was picking out a DVD in the Cinema City on John Street in Kilkenny tonight. Man, I must have lurked there for hundreds of hours over the years, since I was a kid picking out VHS goodness. Anyway there was the DVD of Kells on the shelf. I kinda of looked at it and was thinking my usual grumbly picky thoughts of how I still prefer the French cover with Ross Stewarts font for the text and all.

Then I was walking out after renting my DVD and in the middle of unlocking my bike, I just went back in to the shop and picked it up and looked at it and realised how surreal it was that our film was in there amongst all the other "real" films. Then I realised , maybe more than when it was in the cinema , that it IS a "real" film, really out there in the world for better or worse after all these years.
Its a bit surreal yet very ordinary. A small thing in the greater scheme of things I know , but pretty significant for me I guess.

So there you go.

BTW I rented "King of Kong" - excellent.

The first rule of Directors club...

Is we don't talk about Directors club - d'oh!
Here is the gang from the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland at the directors club where I did a Q+A on directing Kells.

It was a great night alright. Thanks to all my fellow directors for showing up !

I saw a nice display for the DVDs on Grafton street too in HMV , they seem to be in plenty of shops...hope people pick them up. I am still waiting for my free copies...dagnabit!

Anyway I am sure they are on their way...

BTW I noticed there are more and more free downloads of Kells popping up and although our distributors and sales agents try to stop it, its pretty hard.
Please don't steal our film! If you do, at least buy a DVD when you get the chance ,eh?
If everyone downloaded films for free...well we would'nt be able to make a living making them.

I know there are arguments fro free content and so on, but right now its only hurting small producers and directors and the industry as a whole to download stuff illegally...

Save the Irish Film Board"

http://apps.facebook.com/causes/323954?m=203ed29b

The Secret of Kells would not have been possible without the support of the IFB.
Heck, Cartoon Saloon would not have been possible with out IFb support.
To cut this source of loans, grants and investment is beyond shortsighted.
Join the petition to Irish government not to make this false saving!

French DVD

I got a copy of the French DVD in the post yesterday , (still waiting for my Irish copies hint hint!)
But the French version is fantastic! Lovely gold embossed printed cover, two language versions (French and Breton), cool animated menus and lovely extras.
So nice to hold an actual product in my hands after all these years.
Hooray.
